Hier ist die größte Kupfermine der Welt in Chuquicamata (Chile) zu sehen. Aus dem größten von Menschen geschaffenen Loch der Welt wurden bisher 2,3 Milliarden Tonnen Kupfererz gefördert (Stand: 2005). Ein Großteil des von uns verwendeten Kupfers stammt aus Chuquicamata. Das Kupfer wird in vielen technischen Geräten verwendet. Mit dem Kauf dieser Geräte fördern wir den umweltzerstörenden Abbau nur noch mehr. Doch auch aus solch einer Mondlandschaft kann mit viel Mühe wieder ein Naturparadies werden, wie wir aus dem Braunkohleabbaugebiet Lausitz in Deutschland wissen.

electronic equipment and if we buy this equipment, we promote ecological destruction in Chuquicamata. But if we concentrate our efforts , this moonscape can become a natural paradise, as we know from the Lausitz brown coal area in Germany.
