Katar: "Kampf des Lebens"

Sein Drohnenfoto einer Strandszene, in der Fischer beim Einholen eines Fangnetzes zu sehen sind, brachte Amal Prasad den Sieg für Katar ein. Er ist damit Gewinner des "Qatar National Award 2022". Prasad: "Das Leben eines Dorffischers ist nicht einfach - es ist ein Kampf ums Überleben."

There are lots of shops in the main streets but people in the old streets prefer to get serviced by mobile street vendors. I spent a weekend following street vendors and found that they were walking or riding their bikes all day. Image Name: Frozen Rock Photographer Name: Damon Beckford Year: 2022 Image Description: <p>In January 2021 the temperature went down to -25°C on the south coast of Finland. I went to Emäsalo in the city of Porvoo to capture the freezing of the Baltic Sea. As the sea starts to freeze, it creates beautiful ice sculptures on the rocks, and a few days later the sea is frozen. Getting so close, within a few metres from this big bull, and shooting from a very low angle with a wide lens, requires some courage! The image consists of 20 shots – six of the sky and six of the foreground, shot at 15mm with a shutter speed of 20 seconds. Ein Zwerg-Seepferdchen (Hippocampus bargibanti). Nur zwei Zentimeter groß und außergewöhnlich gut getarnt, schwimmt das winzige Wesen zwischen den knorpeligen Korallen. Die kurzen Schnauzen der Seepferdchen sind den Polypen der Gorgonien-Korallen zum Verwechseln ähnlich. Qiang Lin vom South China Sea Institute of Oceanology und Axel Meyer von der Universität Konstanz fanden nun heraus, dass das Fehlen eines Gens namens hoxa2b für die Stupsnase verantwortlich ist. Eigentlich sorgt es bei Seepferdchen für ein weiteres Wachstum der Schnauze. Doch das würde die perfekte Mimese zerstören. Die Symbiose mit der Gorginie ist für das Zwerg-Seepferdchen überlebenswichtig: Weil die Koralle antimikrobielle Stoffe produziert, die es vor Krankheiten schützen, haben sich Gene seines Immunsystems ausgeschaltet. Gleichzeitig kann das Gift der Korallen dem Seepferdchen nichts anhaben, sodass es sich liebevoll mit seinem Schwanz festhalten kann. KW35
